Flowers, chairs and bobbins!

Afgelopen dinsdag was het weer “bloemschikavond”! Op het programma stond een herfstbiedermeier. We moesten allerlei verschillende herfstmaterialen meenemen zoals rozenbottels, malus-appeltjes, herfstbladeren, lampionnetjes en kastanjes. En dit is het eindresultaat; door al die materialen in rood/oranje tinten is het wel weer een bijzonder bloemstuk geworden vind ik zelf……

Last Tuesday it was "arranging flowers evening"! We had to make an autumn”biedermeier” (I do not know the English word for this flower technique). We had to bring different autumn-materials such as rose-hips, little apples, autumn leaves, physalis and chestnuts. I think the result is very nice, because of all those different materials in red/orange colours.

Ik heb de sidetable daarom ook maar weer wat anders gedecoreerd en de kleur rood terug laten komen in de kleine glazen potjes met rozenbottels.

I re-decorated the sidetable by repeating the colour red in those little glass jars.

Maar.....ik ben niet alleen met een bloemstuk thuisgekomen die avond……in de hal van het “dorpshuis” stonden enkele stoelen opgestapeld met daarop het bordje “gratis meenemen”. Tja en als liefhebber van oude opknappertjes kon ik ze natuurlijk niet laten staan…..Ze moeten nog opgepimpt worden, leuk verfje, leuk kussentje en dan nog een plaatsje ervoor vinden…….en anders zijn ze altijd handig bij veel visite….

But I did not only bring this flower-arrangement back home that evening…..at the entrance of the parish hall there were some chairs piled up with a sign “take it for free”. And as I love to pimp up old furniture I could not resist them. I have to renovate the chairs, give them a nice colour, a cushion and then find a nice place somewhere in our house to put them…..and otherwise they are useful when we have visitors……

En tenslotte nog deze houten garenklosjes die ik onlangs op de kop getikt heb. Ik heb alle garen eraf gerold en er wat kantjes omheen gewonden. Samen met de oude knoopjes en een oud radeerwieltje in een weckpot geeft een leuk plaatje.

And finally these wooden bobbins I recently found. I removed all the threads en winded up some lace on them. Together with the old buttons and a pattern-wheel in a can it gives a nice picture.

White and some red...

Wit heeft een hoofdrol bij ons in huis….de meeste meubels zijn wit geverfd en verder aangevuld met veel witte accessoires. Zo heb ik onlangs het (witte) jurkje dat mijn dochter droeg als bruidsmeisje op het huwelijk van mijn broer, 8 jaar geleden, op de paspop gehangen en in de woonkamer gezet. Het levert zo’n lief plaatje op!

White has a leading role in our house….most of our furniture has been painted white and I have a lot of white accessories. A short time ago I hung the (white) dress my daughter wore when she was a bridesmaid at my brother’s wedding, about 8 years ago, on a mannequin in the living room. I think it is such a lovely picture!

En heel bijzonder de waterlelie toverde de afgelopen week nog een witte bloem tevoorschijn…..het zal de laatste wel zijn voor dit jaar.

And very special, the water lily presented a white flower last week……it will probably be the last one this year.


Maar...vooral in de herfst is het erg leuk om wit te combineren met rood, deze roos is daar een heel mooi voorbeeld van…

But... specially in the autumn it is nice to combine white with red, this rose is a beautiful example of that combination...

How to decorate a stepladder?

Afgelopen zaterdag, terwijl ik liep te winkelen met mijn dochter, een sms-je van Erna: ”Ik heb iets voor je gekocht waar je heel blij mee zult zijn……kom je even langs om het te halen?”Ja natuurlijk wilde ik dat wel en ondertussen maar bedenken: wat heeft ze nu in vredesnaam voor mij gekocht??
Toen ik uiteindelijk bij haar het tuinpad op kwam stond hij me al op te wachten in al zijn glorie lekker in het zonnetje; een door en door gebruikte houten (schilders)trap! Gevonden op de rommelmarkt, echt een koopje! Een trap met een verhaal door al die verschillende verfsporen en helemaal vergrijsd door de jaren heen………..Mijn man dacht bij thuiskomst dat ik nu toch wel echt een beetje de weg kwijt was, wat moet je toch met die troep en de deur werd al demonstratief op slot gedraaid……


Last Saturday, while shopping with my daughter, I got a sms from my girl-friend: “I bought something for you and you will be very delighted with it………come over and pick it up!” Of course I wanted to pick it up and in the meanwhile I became so curious: what on earth did she buy for me?? When I finally came at her house the present was already waiting for me in all his glory in the sunshine; an intensive used stepladder! Found at the flea market, a real bargain! A stepladder with a story, all those different stains of paint in various colours gathered throughout the years and it had turned old grey. My husband thought I had gone mad, what do you do with that mess! He demonstratively locked the backdoor for me………

Maar goed, de trap moet natuurlijk nog wel een klein beetje "opgeknapt" worden, ik denk dat ik hem een dun wit verflaagje geef, want de verfvlekken moeten natuurlijk wel zichtbaar blijven.....
En dan het belangrijkste: de aankleding! Ik ben begonnen met een eikenbladkrans aan de top….

Okay, the stepladder has to be "refurbished" a little bit, I think I will give it a thin white coat of paint, so that the stains will remain visible......
And the most important part: the decoration! At first I hung my wreath of oak leaves at the top…….

Daarna wat glaasjes met loden hartjes ……

And attached some glasses with hearts of lead…..

and.....stepladder by night!

Het is nog maar een "decoratie-begin"……. ik ga de trap zeker nog voor andere dingen gebruiken (ik heb al wat ideetjes voor de kerst). Maar één ding is zeker: hij komt niet in de huiskamer, hoewel….ik heb al foto’s op internet gezien van soortgelijke trapjes leuk "aangekleed" in de huiskamer..........

It is just a "decoration-start", I will use the ladder for many other things (I already have some ideas for Christmas) but certainly it will not be removed to our living room, although I saw already pictures on the internet of stepladders nicely “dressed up” in the living room.............
