"Leftovers"

Wat te doen met alle overgebleven planken van de nieuwe werkruimte? Gewoon weer gebruiken voor een nieuw project natuurlijk! En gelukkig wilde mijn man nog wel even een handje helpen….
Eerst leek het me wel leuk om er plantenbakken van te maken maar uiteindelijk zijn het zuilen geworden...

What to do with the shelves that are left over from the new build shelter? Just use them again for a new project of course! And happily my husband was willing to help again….
At first I would like to make some boxes for plants, but ultimately they turned out to be pillars.

Ik heb ze alleen in de grondverf gezet, daardoor komt de structuur van het hout er ook nog mooi door en eventueel kan ik ze daarna altijd nog een ander kleurtje geven. Uit de laatste 2 planken zijn nog wat hartjes gezaagd, daarna geverfd en wat doorgeschuurd.

I just grounded them, so you still can see the structure of the wood and I am able to give it another color if I want so.
Out of the last two shelves some hearts were sawn, I painted them and after that planed them a little bit on the edges.

Uiteindelijk zijn er zes zuilen gemaakt van de “restjes”!

Deze twee heb ik aan Erna gegeven voor haar verjaardag…

Actually six pillars are made out of the “leftovers”!

These two I gave to Erna for her birthday….

En verder staan er bij mij thuis twee op de vensterbank, met krans en kroon….

Two of them are standing in front of the window with a wreath and a crown…

En de laatste twee staan buiten voor ons huis, met wit geverfde bloempotten en witte hortensia's.

And the last two are standing outside before our house, with white painted flower pots and white hydrangeas.


Zo heeft alle “afvalhout” weer een nieuwe en mooie bestemming gevonden!

In this way all the wood that was left over has found a new and nice destination!

The making of a little shelter...

We hebben al een aantal jaren plannen voor het kleine stukje grond (van 3 bij 3 meter) achter onze garage. Het is echt zo’n rommelhoekje met o.a. containers, tegels, dakpannen, bloempotten en twee keer een halve meter conifeer…. In de afgelopen meivakantie heeft mijn man uiteindelijk de moed opgevat om het maar eens aan te pakken. Eerst moesten flink wat coniferen worden verwijderd, niet bepaald het leukste karweitje!

For a long time we have plans for the little piece of ground (3 by 3 meters) behind our garage. It is very disorderly with containers, flowerpots, paving stones and two times half a meter of conifers...During our last holidays my husband had the guts to start the project. First there had to be moved a lot of conifers, not the nicest work to do!

Heel wat kruiwagens geel zand verder… de palen in de grond en opnieuw bestraten…

De planken zijn eraan geschroefd en de eerste golfplaten liggen op het dak…

The shelves are attached and the roof is almost ready…

Het eindresultaat, een verloren hoekje achter de garage is omgetoverd in een overdekte werk- en opslagruimte. De buitenwand wordt nog groen geverfd en ik heb de achterkant van de garage inmiddels wit geverfd.

The final result, a lost corner in our garden has turned into a shelter to work in and with space for storage. The outside I am going to paint green and the back wall of the garage I already painted white.

Van mijn moeder kreeg ik de werkbank van mijn (overleden) vader, hij was vaak aan het knutselen in zijn schuurtje en heeft heel wat uurtjes doorgebracht achter deze werkbank. Getuige ook de vele verfspetters en andere gebruikssporen die daardoor voor mij een speciale betekenis hebben. Ik vind het heel bijzonder dat ik hem nu ook weer ga gebruiken voor al mijn “knutsel” activiteiten.

My mother gave me this work-bench, it belonged to my (deceased) father, he was often pottering in his shed and he spent a lot of hours working behind this bench. That history you can see on the spots of paint and other traces of use, they are very special to me. It is also very special that I am going to use it again for all my pottering activities.

De afgelopen dagen heb ik er al dankbaar gebruik van kunnen maken. Voor de tennisvereniging moest ik wat boeketjes bloemen maken en het is zo heerlijk dat ik dat nu hier kan doen, alles kan zo blijven liggen en ik heb veel meer ruimte dan bij de keukentafel!

And as you can see on this picture I used the new space already for some activities. I had to make some bunches of flowers for the tennis club and it is so nice working this way and I have much more working space than on the kitchen table!

En ook voor het verven is het heel handig (en er wordt wat geverfd bij ons…..).

And also for painting things it is very useful (and we paint a lot….). What has become of the project on this picture I will show you in a next post!

Ik ben heel blij met deze extra ruimte, het was zo’n rommeltje en het is nu zo mooi geworden! Mijn man heeft het samen met mijn zoon met veel plezier opgebouwd en ik ben trots op ze! En omdat het zo goed gelukt is hebben we al plannen gemaakt voor het maken van een veranda achter in de tuin…..

I am so happy with the little shelter, it was such a mess and now it has become such a nice place! My husband and son enjoyed building it and I am proud of them! And because it succeeded so well, we already made plans for building a veranda in the back of our garden…

Cow's Parsley (Fluitenkruid)

De bermen zien er weer prachtig uit, het Fluitenkruid staat in bloei! Daarom ben ik maar eens op de fiets gestapt om wat foto’s te maken van deze bloemenpracht. Dit kanaal loopt aan de rand van ons dorp, het is één grote bloemenzee!

The slopes are looking just beautiful, the Cow's Parsley is blooming! That's why I went by bike to the edge of our village and took these pictures. It is a beautiful sea of flowers!

Natuurlijk kon ik de verleiding niet weerstaan....dus met een fietsmandje vol Fluitenkruid naar huis om ze vervolgens in een kan, een bloempot en een paar blikken te schikken.

And of course I could not resist the temptation......so I went home with my (bike) basket full of Cow's Parsley. At home I put them in a can, a flowerpot and some tins.

Queen's day 2009...

Koninginnedag 2009, het begon zo zonnig op een terras met een kopje koffie en een oranje tompouce en gezellig slenteren over de vrijmarkt. Dat deze dag zo’n dramatische wending zou krijgen had niemand kunnen vermoeden. Zo afschuwelijk dat dit ongedwongen, traditionele en oergezellige volksfeest zo eindigde….

Queen’s day in Holland 2009, it started so sunny on a terrace with a cup of coffee and an orange cake and after that walking around the flee-market looking for bargains. That this day would turn into such a dramatic one nobody could imagine. So awful that this wonderful traditional National feast ended this way…

Deze prachtige seringen gaan via het web naar alle slachtoffers en nabestaanden van het drama op Koninginnedag.

Through the web I give these beautiful branches of the lilac tree to all the victims and relatives of the disaster on Queen’s day.

Ondanks alle ellende heb ik toch nog een paar dingen gekocht op de vrijmarkt; een dienblad en een handdoekenrekje.....

Despite of the misery I bought a few things on the flee market; a serving tray and a towel rack….

En omdat het meivakantie is heb ik genoeg tijd om ze gelijk onder handen te nemen… met dit als eindresultaat. Voor het dienblad heb ik nog een overgebleven stukje rozenstof gebruikt als onderlegger.

And because I have almost two weeks off I had time to paint them right away…with this result. For the serving tray I used a piece of fabric that was left over of the covers for my chairs.

En het handdoekenrekje, ik had op dezelfde plek al een soortgelijk rekje hangen, maar de nieuwe versie is wat steviger en iets groter, daarom maar even omgeruild!

And the towel rack, I had a similar one hanging on the same spot, but this one is more solid and larger, so I switched them.

Verder heb ik vorige week nog dit buikkastje bij de “Second Hand Shop” op de kop getikt. Mijn dochter kan nog wel wat extra kastruimte gebruiken, daarom deze keer geen witte metamorfose maar een roze. En het leuke is dat ze hem zelf heeft geverfd!

Furthermore I bought this little cupboard at the "Second Hand Shop". My daughter could use some extra cupboard space in her bedroom, so no white transformation this time but a pink one. And she painted it herself!

Hij staat nu te drogen, ze wil het beslag nog zilverkleurig verven en het eindresultaat laat ik jullie in een volgende post zien!

It is drying now, she wants to paint the grips in silver and I will show the final result in the next post!
